Concrete Work in Busco
Churubusco sits in the far northeast corner of Whitley County, about 16 miles northwest of Fort Wayne, and the concrete contractors who work here serve both the town's older blocks and the farms around it. The 2020 census counted 1,870 residents and 864 housing units, up from 692 units in 2000, so a fair number of newer homes have gone up alongside the older ones. Locals call it Busco, or Turtle Town, U.S.A. We pour and replace driveways, patios, stamped concrete, walks and steps, and slabs for garages and outbuildings.
Two towns and a railroad
Churubusco began as two 19th-century towns, Union and Franklin, that bordered each other across a railroad track. When both applied for post offices, they were told to share one, and the joint office took the name Churubusco after the 1847 battle in Mexico. Housing units have grown since 2000, so today the town mixes long-standing homes with newer ones. The older houses tend to have narrow driveways and front steps that have shifted over the years. The newer ones more often need a bigger patio or a wider drive.
Higher ground, cold winters
At about 896 feet, Churubusco sits noticeably higher than Fort Wayne, near the headwaters of the Eel River. The higher, more rolling ground around town often drains better than the flat land closer to the city, but it also means lots can slope, so patios and walks may need steps or a thickened edge. Winters here bring the same freeze and thaw as the rest of northeast Indiana, so every outdoor slab we pour uses an air-entrained mix and joints spaced to control cracking.
The Beast of Busco and Turtle Days
The town's yearly Turtle Days festival is described as the oldest continually held festival in Indiana, and it grew out of the legend of the Beast of Busco, a giant snapping turtle said to live in Fulk's Lake. Nobody ever caught it. Festival week brings a lot of foot traffic, and owners on the main streets sometimes want walks and steps fixed before then. If you are on a busy block, tell us when you need the work done and we will plan the cure time around it.

Churubusco Questions
Can you have my walk done before Turtle Days?
Tell us your deadline when you call. Walks need a few days before heavy foot traffic, so we schedule the pour with enough cure time before festival week.
My lot slopes. Can I still have a flat patio?
Yes. We can build up one side with a thickened edge, add a step, or follow the grade with a slight pitch so the patio drains properly.
Do you work on farms outside Churubusco?
Yes. We pour garage, shop and pole barn slabs and aprons across Smith Township and nearby Whitley County.
