Concrete Along the St. Joseph River
Leo-Cedarville is a riverside town north of Fort Wayne, and the concrete contractors who work here split their time between in-town lots and longer rural driveways on the edges of Cedar Creek Township. The two villages were incorporated together as one town in 1996. Cedarville was platted in 1838, and Leo was founded in 1849 under the name Town of Hamilton. The town had 3,624 residents at the 2020 census and 1,279 housing units, up from 939 in 2000. We pour driveways, patios, stamped concrete, walks and steps, and slabs for garages, sheds and pole barns.
Building near the water
The town lies along the St. Joseph River and the Cedarville Reservoir, and about 0.13 square miles of its area is water. Homes that sit close to the river or reservoir often have yards that slope toward the water, and that slope is useful for drainage only if the concrete is set to work with it. A patio poured flat on a slope ends up with one edge buried and the other hanging in the air. We set patios and walks to follow the grade, add a turned-down edge where the yard falls away, and keep downspout water from running under the slab.
Growth from 2000 to 2010
The population rose 29.5 percent between 2000 and 2010, from 2,782 to 3,603, and then held steady. Many of the homes built in that decade are now around 15 to 25 years old. That is when original driveways start to show cracked aprons and the first panel drops near the garage, and when back patios that were poured small begin to feel cramped. A lot of our work here is replacing those slabs or making them bigger.
Longer drives and outbuildings
On the larger lots around town, a driveway can run well past what a city lot would need, and many owners want a slab for a detached garage, workshop or pole barn. Those jobs are mostly about the base. We strip topsoil, bring in and compact stone, and pour thicker where trucks or equipment will sit. Outbuilding slabs over 200 square feet may need an Allen County building permit, so we check that before we schedule.
A note on local landmarks
The Hursh Road Bridge near town was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, a reminder that this area was settled early along the river. Some older homes near the original village centers still have walks and steps from many decades ago. We can replace them in a plain broom finish that suits the house or match a newer stamped patio out back.

Leo-Cedarville Questions
Can you pour a patio on a yard that slopes toward the river?
Yes. We set the patio to step with the grade or add a thickened edge where the ground drops, and we pitch it so water runs off toward the yard, not under the slab.
Do I need a permit for a pole barn slab in Leo-Cedarville?
Allen County's permit guide lists structures over 200 square feet as needing a permit. We check what your project needs before the pour.
How thick should a slab for a workshop or barn be?
It depends on what will sit on it. A car garage and a slab for a tractor or loaded trailer need different thickness and base depth, and we size the slab to the real load.
